A Plate Load Test (PLT) is a widely used in-situ geotechnical investigation method to determine the bearing capacity and settlement characteristics of soil and sometimes weak or weathered rock at a specific depth. It is especially important for designing foundations such as footings, rafts, and pavements. What is Plate Load Test? A Plate Load Test is a field test in which a rigid steel plate is placed at the foundation level (test depth), and incremental loads are applied. The corresponding settlement of the soil/rock beneath the plate is measured.
