The investigation includes borehole drilling, collection of disturbed samples (DS) and undisturbed samples (UDS) at required depth intervals, and conducting Standard Penetration Tests (SPT) to evaluate soil density and consistency. The SPT is generally carried out at regular intervals or at changes in strata to obtain N-values for design purposes. In case of hard strata or rock, core drilling is performed using appropriate drilling equipment. The recovered rock cores are examined to determine Core Recovery and Rock Quality Designation (RQD), which indicate the quality, strength, and degree of fracturing of the rock mass. The investigation also involves careful logging of soil and rock strata, recording groundwater table, and noting field observations. Collected samples are tested in the laboratory to determine engineering properties such as grain size distribution, Atterberg limits, shear strength, compressibility, and unconfined compressive strength of rock. The data obtained from field and laboratory investigations is used to assess bearing capacity, settlement characteristics, and other foundation parameters required for safe and economical design of structures. This dry drilling method ensures minimal disturbance to soil structure and is effective in obtaining reliable geotechnical data under suitable ground conditions.
