Description

Paver Block Testing is conducted to determine the strength, durability, and quality of concrete paving blocks used in roads, footpaths, and parking areas. The main tests include compressive strength, water absorption, and dimensional accuracy, as per IS 15658. For compressive strength testing, the paver block specimen is cleaned and properly aligned in a Compression Testing Machine (CTM). Load is applied gradually and uniformly without shock until failure occurs, and the maximum load is recorded. The compressive strength is calculated by dividing the failure load by the loaded area. For water absorption, the specimen is first oven dried, weighed, then immersed in water for a specified duration, and weighed again. The percentage increase in weight indicates the water absorption capacity. Dimensional checks are carried out to ensure that the block satisfies the required size, shape, and tolerance limits. The results are compared with the permissible limits specified in IS 15658 to evaluate the suitability of paver blocks. This testing ensures that the blocks have adequate strength and durability to withstand traffic loads and environmental conditions.
