Liquid Limit (LL) is the minimum water content (%) at which soil changes from plastic state to liquid state and starts to flow under its own weight.
At this stage, soil loses its shear strength and behaves like a viscous liquid. It is determined in the laboratory using standard methods like Casagrande device (25 blows) or cone penetration (20 mm).
LL is an important part of Atterberg Limits, which define the consistency and behavior of fine-grained soils at different moisture levels.
