Description

AAC (Autoclaved Aerated Concrete) Block Testing is carried out to determine the strength, density, water absorption, and quality of lightweight concrete blocks used in building construction. AAC blocks are lightweight, porous, and precast, produced using cement, lime, sand, and aluminum powder, and cured in an autoclave. The main tests include compressive strength, dry density, water absorption, and dimensional accuracy, as per IS 2185 (Part 3). For compressive strength, the block is placed in a Compression Testing Machine (CTM) and loaded gradually and uniformly until failure. The maximum load is recorded and strength is calculated. For water absorption, the specimen is oven dried, weighed, then immersed in water, and weighed again to determine percentage absorption. Dry density is calculated using the mass and volume of the block, indicating its lightweight nature. Dimensional checks ensure the block meets standard size and tolerance limits. The results are compared with IS standards to verify that AAC blocks have adequate strength, durability, and thermal efficiency for construction use.
